the triathlon wetsuits trap a thin layer of water which heats up with the body heat generating a "thermal insulating" effect during the fraction in open water. The thickness of a triathlon wetsuit varies from 1.5 to 5 millimeters. A minimum thickness guarantees elasticity (with less thermal insulation), while a greater thickness increases the buoyancy reducing the freedom of movement.
